At Language & Literacy Academy for Learning, our free therapy services are the best in the region for students with special needs. Our therapy service providers are able to support our students’ health conditions, environmental, and personal factors more effectively because we specialize in them.
Our in-house therapists are dedicated to supporting our students and helping them to overcome the functional limitations or health conditions that might prevent them from reaching their highest levels of academic success.
As we prepare for the new school year, we want to introduce you to some members of our therapy team. In today’s Therapist Spotlight, meet Speech Language Pathology Assistant, Tatyana Atkins!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I was born in New York and raised in Barbados in the Caribbean. I returned to the USA and completed college at Valencia and UCF. I graduated with cum laude honors in Communication Sciences and Disorders and I just got accepted to graduate school.
What inspired you to become a speech therapist?
Initially, I was majoring in accounting and knew that field was not for me because I wanted to engage with others in a conversational context and numbers aren’t really my thing. I happened to come across the Speech Pathology field due to googling fields that would match my personality and it was set from there.
What is your favorite thing about being a speech therapist?
My favorite thing about being in the Speech Pathology field is being able to interact with others and being able to help others with their speech.
Who is your personal hero?
My personal hero is my dad.
What do you like to do for fun?
For fun I like to spend time with my friends, scroll social media and look at hair pages on there.
Be sure to check out our other Therapist Spotlights, and join us at our upcoming Therapist Meet & Greet to meet Harmony and the rest of our therapy team in person!
