At Language & Literacy Academy for Learning, our free therapy services are the best in the region for students with special needs. Our therapy service providers are able to support our students’ health conditions, environmental, and personal factors more effectively because we specialize in them.

Our in-house therapists are dedicated to supporting our students and helping them to overcome the functional limitations or health conditions that might prevent them from reaching their highest levels of academic success.

As we prepare for the new school year, we want to introduce you to some members of our therapy team. In today’s Therapist Spotlight, meet Occupational Therapist, Kimberly Acosta!

Tell us a little about yourself and your background.

My name is Kimberly Acosta, I’m the new occupational therapist at LLAL. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I earned my bachelor’s degree in health sciences from UCF and master’s degree in occupational therapy from FIU. I spent a year working in a specialty pediatric clinic and am thrilled to be expanding my reach as a school-based therapist.

What inspired you to become an occupational therapist?

I learned about occupational therapy in high school as I was working as a swimming instructor. I loved that job and started to search for a career where I could work hands-on with children of all abilities. Once I found out about OT I realized I had found my dream profession. I’ve loved the journey ever since.

What is your favorite thing about being an occupational therapist?

My favorite thing about being an OT is having fun with a child while they develop important skills.

Who is your personal hero?

My personal hero is my grandmother. She made it through a lot as a single mother and was the most caring and selfless person I’ve ever had in my life.

What do you like to do for fun?

My spare time is best spent when I can be outside. I enjoy reading, hiking and camping.
